Pilottanzt was founded in 1991 by Roderich Madl and Doris Ebner in Vienna. 9 pieces were created and performed in 17 countries since then and achieved both national and international awards. Commisioned projects and international co-productions as for the EXPO2000 for art festivals and film productions were and are still translated into reality.
Pilottanzt was coproduced by the EXPO 2000
Hannover and TANZtheater International Festival with the creation E-N-D.
E-N-D toured throughout Europe. This piece was a preparation work
for the touring transportable performance unit MOVING GALLERY, coproduced
by Internationale Tanzwoche Dresden and the Sommerszene Festival Salzburg.
2002 started the second phase of this project where the cooperation with visual
artists was intensified and the surrounding space was stronger incorporated
into the concept. The Solo ALICE-Wunderland ist abgebrannt was choreographed
by Chris Haring for Doris Ebner and is as well part of MOVING GALLERY
as it is performed independently in a stage version.
The quartett IT´S YOU-MAN (IYM) was premiered 1999 involving
live-electronic music as well as a visual artist performing live. In 2000
IYM was presented at the Julidansfestival in Amsterdam, at the Internationale
Tanzwoche Dresden and in Austria.
Already with the first creations Borderline and eros-ion
they received awards from the Austrian Ministry for the Arts. eros-ion
was the first Austrian production to be shown at the Volkstheater, Vienna,
at the Impuls Festival.
Things from Above (1995) has been presented and acclaimed at a mainfold
of European festivals such as Tanz im August/Berlin, Internationale Tanzwoche
Dresden and at renowned dance performance places as the Dansescenen in Copenhagen
as well. Domestic festivals, e.g. Sommerszene Salzburg, Im Puls festival Vienna
and Grenztanz, invited the Pilots to show this piece. In autumn 1996 Pilottanzt
went on a Russia-Ukraine tour. In 1998/99 Things from Above was shown
in Prague, Mexico, Costa Rica, Germany and Slovenia.
The short duet x-tracts, developed for the International Choreographers
Competition in Groningen/the Netherlands, not only entered the final competition,
but following the competition it was invited to the Sommertheaterfestival
Hamburg and as frame programme to the Recontres Choregraphiques Internationales
in Bagnolet/Paris (duets were not admitted to the competition).
In 1997 Pilottanzt presented the piece ainos one for which the company
got a presentation award from the Austrian Chancellory for the Arts and won
the Austrian Dance Award 1998. Things from Above was on tour in 1998
and in 1999 and was presented in Prague, Mexico, Costa Rica, Paris, Germany
and Slovenia.
Pilottanzt was the winner of the International Choreographer Competition in
